Dollar General has announced plans to close 390 Family Dollar stores across the U.S. (Dollar Tree purchased Family Dollar in 2015.)
The company also plans to re-brand 200 stores as Dollar Tree.
Just one month ago, Dollar General announced that it would be taking over a 320,000-square-foot distribution facility in Clayton, NC. Johnston County officials offered the company incentives to take over the facility, which previously operated as a distribution center for Smithfield Foods.
However, the store closures aren’t likely to affect the Clayton, NC facility, or the 105 jobs that the facility are expected to bring to Johnston County. The company’s long-term plans include expanding to more “rural” areas, and to sell more groceries in those areas.
