February 1, 2018
A truck driver intentionally damaged the famed Nazca Lines – a 2,000-year-old World Heritage Site that consists of a series of massive, complex geoglyphs carved into the desert floor. The truck driver, Jainer Jesús Flores Vigo, was arrested after being spotted driving his semi off the Pan-American Highway and across the landscape. An inspection the next day revealed “deep scars” and tire damage to three of the glyphs.

On Sunday, Feb. 11, deputies and Utah Highway Patrol Troopers arrested the driver of a semi truck who was driving recklessly on I-84. The driver was so intoxicated on drugs and alcohol that he could not stand to perform sobriety tests. He was arrested for DUI second offense, open container, possession of a controlled substance, alcohol restricted driver, and operating a commercial vehicle with alcohol in the vehicle.

Officers say they arrested a truck driver traveling down Interstate 80 after a police dog alerted its handler to the odor of drugs at a truck stop. Police found 112 pounds of marijuana, 995 vials of hash oil, and nearly 5 pounds of hash wax. The street value of the drugs seized is estimated at $560,000.

Mark Hazelwood, former president of diesel fuel retailer Pilot Flying J, was convicted of fraud and conspiracy charges as part of a plot to defraud trucking companies out of millions of dollars in owed fuel rebate checks. The same jury also convicted former vice president Scott Wombold, and former account representative Heather Jones.

According to SensiGuard, California leads the nation in cargo thefts. The firm also reports a 14% decrease in cargo theft volume between 2016 and 2017. But that doesn’t mean that theft is decreasing. Instead, thieves are more carefully targeting specific loads and/or products.

A tow truck driver was cited for “serious violations” after multiple sheriff’s deputies had to escort the vehicle off the highway for safety reasons. The hauler was only allowed to carry four vehicles, but there were eight stacked up on its trailer bed, and towed behind it. The two vehicles being towed were stacked on top of each other, with the top vehicle only secured with a tie strap attached to the handles of the bottom car.

Dr. Kenneth G. Edwards and two employees of his chiropractic practice in Phenix City, Alabama were arrested and face charges of conspiracy and wire fraud. The three are charged with submitting false physical exams to the DOT for drivers seeking their CDL. According to the indictment, the three performed physicals that were not up to DOT standards.
