$2.5 billion auto plant conversion project in Detroit, MI moves forward

Wayne County MI manufacturingFiat Chrysler Automobiles has struck a deal with the owner of 82-acres of land, which the company plans to use as part of a project to invest in and convert two of its existing plants in Detroit, MI.

In total, Fiat Chrysler plans to acquire 215 acres from various public and private landowners. The entire package of land deals will cost $107.6 million.

Fiat Chrysler plans to use the property to convert two of its Mack Avenue engine plants into an assembly plant for Jeep SUVs. The company also plans to invest in and modernize its Jefferson North Assembly Plant. The projects are projected to bring 4,950 jobs to Detroit’s east side.
