Heavy machine operators in Michigan went on strike today. The workers are protesting the labor practices of Rieth-Riley Construction.
Rieth-Riley is based in Indiana, but is a road paver and asphalt supplier in Michigan and has an administrative office in Grand Rapids. The company also operates 13 asphalt plants throughout the state.
The workers are demanding over $1.8 million in back pay that accrued during a lockout last year, as well as a new contract.
