Gas prices have continued to rise and are now close to their highest level since 2014.

As of last week the average price of unleaded in the U.S. hit $2.90.

“I think we have a pretty good shot at seeing $3 a gallon if the OPEC or Iran [situations] continue to fan the flames,” said Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst for GasBuddy.com.

Framing lumber: $389

Panels/plywood: $448

Framing lumber prices continued their slump. Producers in many regions of the U.S. are continuing to offer discounts in an effort to entice buyers.

Structural panel prices also dropped after a week of little demand and abundant supply. Competition is fierce among mills as they struggle to earn the few orders that are in circulation.

Job growth missed targets in September and instead entered into a slump.

Analysts expected the economy to create 185,000 jobs last month, but the actual number reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics was 134,000.

However, unemployment remains at historic lows. The unemployment rate fell to 3.7%, which is the lowest since 1969.

There was also a slight rise in wages. Average hourly earnings rose 2.8% to $27.24. This is an increase of $0.73 for the year.
