Veterans wanted in Trucking Industry

Although the unemployment rate seems to be shrinking for former military personnel, there are still many men and women still struggling to find jobs. These men and women are leaving the military after serving only to struggle finding gainful employment. However, an army official has publicly declared former service members as great candidates for truck driving. This blog post will highlight why veterans are top candidates for trucking jobs. Also, this post will address the current trend in unemployment statistics.

Unemployment Statistics

  • The unemployment rate for veterans who served on active duty at any time since September 2001 declined by 1.4 points to 5.8 percent in 2015.
  • Also, the jobless rate of 4.6 percent for all veterans also declined from the previous year.

Fortunately, unemployment rates are continuing to drop for former service members. Also, many industries are actively seeking former service members such as the trucking industry.

Qualities Veterans Possess

Acting Secretary of the Army Patrick Murphy spoke at an industry event sponsored by Shell Oil. He highlighted the qualities service members have:

  • Character.
  • Ability to take initiative.
  • Team player mindset.
  • True to their word.

Benefits to Trucking

In addition to there being a need for truckers, veterans also have a lot to gain from joining the industry:

  • Frequent travel.
  • Flexible hours.
  • Job security.
  • Great starting salary.

Closing Thoughts

The trucking industry is a great place for former military service members looking for an area to jump start their civilian career. Driver shortage and the many benefits that come from truck driving are just a few reasons why veterans are joining the trucking industry.
